Cottage Glen Receives Environmental Award
Wild Ones of Door County presented its 2006 Award to Ellison Bay Development LLC,
developer of Cottage Glen at Ellison Bay.
The presentation was made at the annual meeting of the Door County chapter of
Wild Ones - Native Plants, Natural Landscapes (www.for-wild.org).

Key factors in Cottage Glen’s nomination included:
1. The 40 acre development was planned to blend with the environment making as little impact as possible.
2. A prairie was planted over the development’s “septic system” creating a beautiful, renewable landscape attraction. A bluebird trail was added in 2006 and plants to attract butterflies are abundant.
3. No lawns are allowed! Each building is surrounded by mulched yards.
Native plantings are prevalent and promoted.
4. When land is cleared for a building site, as much woods and existing vegetation is left as possible, creating a minimal impact on the site. The woods are filled with wildflowers and plants.
5. The development is attractive to people who value preserving the natural environment and they often mention that as their primary reason for visiting or living at Cottage Glen.

The award plaque is proudly on display in the clubhouse at Cottage Glen.

Preserving the character of the land and fitting in with the Ellison Bay community were essential to the developer of Cottage Glen. Today as homes are being built, owners and visitors are impressed that so much of the original topography and vegetation remain.
